26km walk in the Geopark
The Cavan Way
Distance: 26km
Grade: Strenuous
Terrain: Varied - public road, forest track, open ground, established trails
In the heart of the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark in West Cavan, the linear Cavan Way is a beautiful hill and valley walk between Dowra and Blacklion.
The first section of the Cavan Way follows the course of the Shannon River to its source at the Shannon Pot.
The walk travels along quiet country roads, valley landscapes and riverside paths. The Cavan Way traverses through the megalithic landscapes of the Cavan Burren Park affording breathtaking views of Lough MacNean and the Cuilcagh Mountain before descending into the village of Blacklion where there is a Visitor Centre and cafe in the Market House.
This is a strenuous, long-distance route and should not be undertaken without adequate preparation.
