Dotted around the county, in predominantly rural areas, our historic graveyards are the final resting places of our ancestors and places of huge historical value.

Most historic graveyards in Co Cavan are closed to new burials.

It is Cavan County Council policy to protect historic graveyards and important places for biodiversity.

The digitisation of the burial registers was a result of an audit of burial grounds carried out through funding received from the Heritage Council to identify Historic Burial Grounds vested in Cavan County Council.  This audit was carried out by Architectural Recording & Research and where burial registers were located they were returned to Cavan Library and held in archives.
