Canal path walk

Woodford River

Terrain: Canal/river path and forest tracks

Distance: 6km

Grade:  Easy

Time: 1 hour 30 mins

The Woodford Canal, also known as the Shannon-Erne Waterway, flows through Ballyconnell. A beautiful walk along a sparkling river is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Immerse yourself in the beauty of ancient trees and breathtaking landscapes.

Park at the Shopping Centre car park at the bridge in Ballyconnell and cross the road to a small park. Walk along the river for until you emerge into the open countryside with the river on your left and open fields on your right.

The circular walk takes you through Annagh forest. The forest is part of the old Ballyconnell Demesne with many native Irish tree species.

On the way back, if you wish, cross the footbridge over the river and into Ballyconnell. Otherwise, continue straight along the riverbank back towards the bridge and the Shopping Centre.
